Academic Instructor
The Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative (PVAEC) team is seeking a high-energy, organized, flexible, compassionate, dedicated academic instructor who has strong mathematics and science skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a keen sense of humor, a collaborative work style, and a passion for helping adult learners of all skill levels achieve their educational goals. This position requires some local travel to accommodate learners in the four school districts we serve as well as the county jail.
Candidates should be equally comfortable working with students one on one or in a classroom setting as they complete courses to obtain their high school diploma, prepare for their high school equivalency (HiSETⓇ), or improve their college and workforce readiness skills. We are in the process of redesigning our program and eager to have a fresh perspective on ways to increase learner engagement while still addressing the unique challenges many of our learners’ face.
This position requires an Adult Education Endorsement or a Grade 7-12 certification (or the qualifications to be certified), preferably in mathematics or science. Responsibilities include monitoring students’ academic progress, attendance, and completion of assigned coursework as well as curriculum planning. This is a year-round, full time position with benefits, or it could be modified to multiple part-time positions.
Interested candidates should send a complete application packet that includes a cover letter, resume, three letters of reference, and a teaching application from RSU #68 (our fiscal agent).
Email completed application packets to jmcnaughton@pvaec.org or mail to:
